l Words of Wisdom #1 l “Disco Lights Don't Show Up In Broad Daylight!” |
A significant aspect of the disco experience is the atmosphere created by the disco lights - even for children's discos. If your disco is during daylight hours, choosing a venue that doesn't have curtains or blackout blinds simply means the disco lights won't really show up! It's not the end of the world, but it is a bit of a shame if that aspect of the party is missing! Howdi’s Hint: When choosing a venue, ask the booking officer if they have curtains on the windows! Well looked-after venues will have. And if they've bothered to put up curtains you can be reassured that the rest of the venue should be well maintained. It's also worth checking if the venue has skylights? If so, are blinds fitted to them as well? |
l Words of Wisdom #2 l “Teenagers Usually Know Exactly What Music They Like!” |
It's really great when teenagers come up to me when I'm DJ'ing at their discos and ask for specific songs. It means I can play the music they want to hear and everybody's happy. And because my system is computer-based, I can take thousands of songs with me to every disco! On the other hand, it's really frustrating when I get asked for that special song that the teenager was really looking forward to dancing to, and I haven't got it! Sad faces all round!! If only their parents had actually asked them what music they like and want, rather than assuming they'd be happy with the top 20! Howdi’s Hint 1: Before you contact me to confirm all the details for your event, make sure you ask your child for specific songs they want at their disco. That way you can let me know when you contact me the week before and I can download their music ready for them and they will be happy, happy, happy!!! Howdi’s Hint 2: Why not ask each of your guests to give you their favourite song before the day of the disco and you can pass that onto me? That way you know everybody is getting a song they really want and it will make your guests feel even more special! It creates a real buzz in the runup to your disco too as they compare notes with each other about what songs they've asked for! |
It happens every time! Diligent parents and helpers spend half an hour blowing up loads of balloons and scattering them around the floor of the venue. They look colourful! They look amazing! The effect is spectacular! Then the guests arrive. If its a children's disco it's ususally the boys that go crazy and batter everybody senseless with these ready made weapons! If it's a children's or teenager's disco the result is always the same - within 10 minutes the floor is nothing but a sea of colourful rubber fragments and your heart has leapt into your mouth every thime you think you've heard a small explosion behind you! Howdi’s Hint: If you want balloons to last at your disco, don't leave them on the floor! Tie them in bunches of 3 or 4 and hang them around the walls. They'll look great and probably last all the way through the disco. None of your guests will be intimidated by being battered with them and you won't spend the evening picking up shredded rubber from all over the floor! |
